It was a big step up in size for us and the owner was taking a big step down in size. So, on my walk around I just casually mentioned pieces I was interested in buying. It was a pleasant surprise when we arrived with the moving truck and there were more than the beds and this cabinet (then unrefinished) we had bought in the house. It was work, but fun to move in and start discovering the house.
I knew a system upgrade and remodel were coming soon. The house was heated with these electric wall and floor heaters that I don’t think had been used much. After we blew the first one out and couldn’t get it repaired, I got a little skittish. We had some cold nights with hot water bottles tucked into our beds and still woke up with cold fingers and toes. It was motivation to get the drawing board set up and going.
As-builts are the first step. these are a little sexier than reality. There was a pipe or two crossing the bathroom downstairs and upstairs you couldn’t stand in the tub and a lot of guys would hit there head standing at the toilet. Not to mention there was a ¼” piece of plywood nailed on the wrong side acting as a railing upstairs. Needless to say that was immediately replaced with something temporary, but safer.
