Since I've been back in New Zealand I have wanted to get the whole group of Columba Mom's together to discuss my project. I was pleasantly surprised the first week I was home to find out one of them had organized such a tea. I was thrilled to share the wedding dress with them. It was fun when they raised there arms, struck poses and said, "We're models."
A few days later I dropped a comment that I wanted to get everyone together again for tea and a measure. Another friend quickly volunteered to host it. So, she strategized with the most difficult schedule and sent out a text invite. It was funny when a later text came back.
Daughters of models and
fashion designer are invited
too. :) k
So we are on for Saturday afternoon.
Well, the day came and in our usual hectic fashion we were all running late. So I started measuring the host as we waited for the next arrival.
They came in conveniently staggered enough for me to measure them one after another. Here is one.
They were good sports and happily chatted and ate.
The girls played.
When we finally sat down at the table there was a buzz about those who had seen me wearing my dress Thursday night at the parent teacher conference night. (By the way I got up the nerve to ask Miss Wilson if she would give her blessing to let the girls escort their mothers - in school uniforms - down the runway and she said, YES!). Shhhh! Don't tell the girls. They aren't so excited and it is going to take some work to get them enthused. But the Mom's weren't either when I first suggested my idea to them.
Well, I explained the process and showed them my block, two toiles and final dress. I explained I had just measured them for their blocks. They were surprised by all that was involved. By trying my toiles and dress on they could see how the process and design evolved. We discussed the idea of creating designs that would suit each of them. They shared some of their early apprehensions. "I'll go along with the project, but I'm not going down the aisle"
This juxtaposed with the ease with which they let themselves be measured today was remarkable. Now they are willing to do what they wouldn't before. "I feel desirable, noticed, and not invisible anymore". "I will pay for expertise to look great". They understand that the designs will suit them and feel comfortable.
These women are excited and encouraging.
Well, this snowball is rolling down the hill.
