Chapter Twenty Six – Construction

Peter and Julie are married, construction is happening and I am back working 5 months in Santa Barbara and home 1 month in Dunedin. Rick Jeffrey of Beach Front Construction is building the house. We are here discussing project issues on site.

It's just a typical day in Santa Barbara.

Life doesn't get much better than this.

Rick is a great addition to the team. He understands the conceptual design, is willing and ready to work through any issues that inevitably come up on site during construction and manages the client well.

The living room entry.

It is fun to see the conceptual pieces come to life:

Anchors - The stone fireplace masses which act as anchors for the house.

A bedroom fireplace.

View from the master bedroom.

Voids - The windows or voids that open toward the water.

Walls - They act as piers and ends to the voids.

It was a bit of a challenge, but this house is just asking for this glass railing to not block the view.

Solids - Traditional sided blocks with punched openings that hint at Colonial Architecture.

Then there were the extras like the paneled back wall in the master bedroom and the swimming pool.

But really,

everyone just loves looking out at the water.
