Before I headed back to Santa Barbara for the wedding I had to give a presentation of my work to the department lecturers. I brought in my dresses and synthesized my design themes and intentions in my portfolio. I found this to be very helpful in clarifying my ideas. Their approval was required if I was going to be allowed to go forward in the program.
This meeting came about from the Columba Mom's insisting that I not roll over and give up when I was met with resistance from the school. In the end I found a nice sense of closure and empowerment from the presentation, even though I didn't continue with my studies.
Here it is laid out.
I started by stating my three Design Themes which you will recognize as coming from my Inspirations. These translated into my fabric and color ideas. It has been fun to see how these have reinterpreted themselves in the dresses.
Design Themes
Asphalt - A Softer Black Screen - A dapple of shadow
Color - Splash of Excitement
This led to my three Intentions also found in my Inspirations. These translated into my silhouette's and details. It is about celebrating the body as it is in all it's innate beauty.
Intentions
Silhouette - Enhance the Shape
Inverted Pleat - Cover -
Hint of the Unknown Patterned Screen
Target Market - Mature Women
Here are the first two dresses to be generated
Pleated Dress and Jacket #1
A shift with 5 - inverted back pleats and lace waist length jacket.
Dropped Waist Dress with Pleat Fringe and Jacket #2
A straight dress with lower band of 9 inverted pleats and cropped lace jacket.
In the meantime I was still working on toile's.
