What started as a project to design clothes for women with school-aged children, an under-served market, turned into more. It became about making my friends FEEL BEAUTIFUL. When they have not felt noticed for a while.
My desire has become to see these women walk down the runway as equals with their younger contemporaries. I want them to embrace their femininity and beauty for themselves as the beautiful women that they are. In the process it has been an awakening for me to become empowered and to embrace a broadening of my architectural design life.
I decided to apply to the iD International Emerging Designer Awards, a competition held in Dunedin each year. It was beyond a long shot, but I was on a roll and said what have I got to loose. I would need good photos, so the whole group set out one day to these great warehouse spaces near the docks in Dunedin. I love them.
We had so much fun doing a photo shoot one day. It was like a portion of my dream came true.
I'm a little disappointed I haven't finished all the dresses. It may never happen, but I did learn a lot through this process. So, for now this brings the Archicouture Blog to a close.
