7 – Branz Renovate 1940-1960s

Updated: Aug 11, 2019

Branz has produced a great series on renovation addressing each of the main eras of New Zealand architectural design. I love these books and would say they are a must if you own a house from any of the periods covered.

They cover:

  • some history

  • basic design

  • construction details and methods

  • potential problems and remedies

  • compliance path (building department submittal)

Maybe it is just because I am an architect, but seeing the construction methods of the time saves so much guess work. Since I learned my trade abroad there are a lot of mysteries explained through these gorgeously drawn details.
